Riso del Delta del Po IGP

The first evidence of rice growing in Delta del Po area dates back to the end of 15th century, in connection with the first reclamation of saline soils. From then on rice is a traditional cultivation and in 1950 Montanari stated that “rice produced in this area is by nature one of the finest, if not the finest, in Italy”. Belonging to the Japonica type, Superfino group, this rice is suitable for making risotti, timballi and suppli. It has a large grain, crystalline, compact, with a high protein content and can be white or wholemeal.
